"Shattered"-Concept behind the design

This full body painting piece was inspired by an art contest open to all mediums based on the "Meaning of Love". The success of this piece consisted of a patient model, fun and very helpful photographer, lots of Mehron and Temptu makeup and some awesome hummus and pita chips.

The Concept

Love of all kinds always comes with the risk of loss and hurt but also the reward of happiness, laughter and lightness. This bodypainting piece conveys that you can wear your heart on your sleeve along with some armour to shelter it. Whether the love is really wonderful or not so much, there will be some type of disappointment and shattering during the journey. Just keep the love in your heart and trust your gut to lead you on your way.

How exciting to work on a project that receives 3 Telly Awards and a Philly Award. Cristy not only did makeup but also wardrobe styling for this "Hello Baby" film noir inspired fundraising video presentation for Truman Medical Center and their annual Fashion for a Cause event. The video was created by Prizm Productions.

I'm looking forward to 2011! Already have some great jobs on the books and can't wait to see what transpires in the meantime.

I truly thank all of my clients, colleagues and friends for making my freelancing business so much fun. I'm in my 11th year now and love the styling, the makeup just as much as when I started. I'm also loving my newest found love, bodypainting. It does sound so cliche and cheesy but it's true, I really don't feel like I'm working!!! The days, the people, the concepts, the projects are so different and diverse.

I encourage everyone to follow their dreams, find their passions, take that risk (a calculated one of course), have some faith and work hard!

Valentine's Shoot for the Troops: A Face to Families at War

This Valentine's Shoot for the Troops was definitely a feel good project. This project is all about making people feel good and capturing a special moment of each family of the deployed troops in a photo which will be able to be viewed by the troops overseas for Valentine's day. The images above represent some of the incredible work of the photographers I worked with over the 2 day shoot.

It was an honor to meet so many wonderful families and to get to know them in the short time while doing their makeup and hair. Most of the families had no idea what they were getting into. They thought they would show up and get a little "point and click" photo shoot. But no, this was an all out full production...

-1 photography rep company who organized the event(Biscuit8)

-4 photographers (Peter Chin, Donald Lesko, Michael McClure, Tanya Flemister)

-3 makeup/hair artists (Cristy Guy, Michele Taylor, Margaret Nelson)

-Lots of assistants(so, so many)

-Tons of gear(provided by (Prizm Productions)

This job was very unique in many ways. Not only did I do makeup and hair but also held babies, worked with some good friends, great talent, received a special coin for excellence and support from the Commander, worked on the General and his wife and very importantly made each mom, dad and child feel like a "Super Star" in my chair.

Makeup for "The Ed Show" with Ed Schultze

On December 10th, I had the opportunity to work as key makeup artist for "The Ed Show" with Ed Schultz and guests on MSNBC. They were live on location in Kansas City broadcasting from The Kansas City Free Health Clinic at Bartle Hall.

This health clinic is the fourth site of events put on by National Association of Free Clinics.

Guests included: Sheri Wood, President of the National Association of Free Clinics, Nicole Lamoureux, Executive Director of the National Association of Free Clinics and Dr. Bridgett McCandless, Clinic Medical Director.

New Topic and New Photos

The Amelia Earhart project has definitely dominated my blog since it began. I so badly want to post the photos of my project with Peter Chin but I'm in talks with a magazine to publish them. It shouldn't be too long.

So I thought today I would switch things up a bit and share some images from a beauty makeup story that I also worked on with photographer, Peter Chin.

There are several threads which tie this story together. One, all of the hats are vintage pieces. Two, each look consists of regular makeup application along with some type of body painting and/or liquid latex. Third, all looks photographed in Kansas City. Finally, all talent is based in Kansas City.

It was a blast to do this series of looks! Intense but very creatively rewarding!

Synchronicity, listen to this...

I recently just finished producing and styling my Amelia Earhart inspired fashion editorial with photographer Peter Chin. Then Lisa Guiterrez from The KC Star calls to interview me for a related story about the bomber jacket, an Amelia fashion staple. The timing could not be better!

Vintage planes, vintage trains and vintage automobiles...some of the most interesting elements in creating a captivating fashion editorial.

This Amelia Earhart inspired project is taking me well beyond my role as fashion stylist. It is near and dear to me...so the scouting of the planes, autos and trains is part of the amazing journey. Let's see along with the scouting, another major element to the shoot is creating an awesome team of photographer, makeup artist and hair stylist! Then there are the go-sees to choose an amazing model who can "work" the clothes. The list goes on and on with fittings, shopping, re-designing vintage pieces and then styling everything just right. It's all in the details baby!!

Flyin' High with Fall Fashion Trends

Grab your goggles, your cap, leather bomber jacket and buckle in. This fall 2009 and into 2010 you will be flyin' high in aviator inspired fashion. It's a little rough around the edges but mix with feminine pieces to create a vintage style sexiness.

Okay, so maybe not follow this trend to a tee by wearing goggles...just replace with aviator shades or goggle-like sunglasses.
